La Sierra del Segura se extiende sobre 2.676 km2 que corresponden a la suma de los territorios de Aýna, Bogarra, Elche de la Sierra, Férez, Molinicos, Nerpio, Létur, Lietor, Paterna del Madera, Riópar, Socovos y Yeste. La población actual de la comarca es de 16.500 habitantes que viven en pequeños núcleos de población y pedanías. El nombre “Sierra del Segura” responde a que la comarca constituye la zona alta de la cuenca hidrográfica del río Segura.

La comarca de la Sierra del Segura está situada en el extremo más meridional de Castilla La Mancha y en la cuña de la provincia de Albacete que limita con Jaén, Granada y Murcia, la Sierra del Segura se alza imponente cuando acaba la llanura y se abre al visitante como un espacio privilegiado desde el punto de vista ecológico y paisajístico.
Es un paisaje montañoso, marcado escasamente por el paso fugaz del río Segura, y en mayor medida por sus afluentes (principalmente por el río Mundo y los cursos menores de los ríos Madera, Taibilla y Tus), con sus embalses (Embalse del Cenajo, Embalse de Talave, y Embalse de la Fuensanta).
